The Qin Dynasty
The third stop on your trip will be the Qin Dynasty (221
B.C.-206 B.C.). The first emperor of this dynasty was Qin Shihuangdi, which means
first emporer. However, the dynasty only lasted 15 years. In that short time,
Qin Shihuangdi unified China, set up a bureaucracy, set new standards, and changed
land ownership laws. To unify China, he divided it into 36 provinces, each with
a governor and a defender. In the bureaucracy that Qin Shihuangdi set up, people
had to be appointed to their jobs. Before, the job was just passed down to the next
son. You can see the levels below. He also set new standards for money, measurement,
and writing. He changed land ownership so that anyone could own land. Too bad it
only lasted 15 years.
